Breast Cancer - PREVENTION is The Key, and Thermograms Can Help.

Now You Can Detect Pre-Cancerous Breast Changes Even Earlier!

Are you a woman that worries about breast cancer? I certainly am. I have no family history of breast cancer, I am relatively healthy, I eat well, Ok maybe I don’t drink as much water as I should, but for the most part, I do pretty well. So why am I worried? I worry because African American women are twice as likely to die from breast cancer as their white counterparts. I worry because there is a higher incidence of breast cancer now than ever before. I worry because younger and younger women are succumbing to this disease. I worry because women in my practice often don’t have insurance and don’t present for care until they feel a lump. I worry because a majority of the women I serve do not even do a self breast exam let alone come in to see me regularly for me to do a clinical one. And I particularly worry because the message of prevention is not getting through.

There is hope however: early detection is the key. The earlier you can detect suspicious breast changes the better your chances for survival. If you could see an area of increased vascularity (blood flow) in a picture of your breasts which suggested that perhaps in a year or two that area might begin to produce a cancerous growth, wouldn’t you grateful for the information right away? Currently we depend on mammograms to provide us with information as to whether lumps are already visible in the breast tissue, but please realize that by the time the lump is detected the cancer is already there. A newly popular procedure called a THERMOGRAM is able to take a picture of your breasts and show immediately where the areas of heat and cool are in your tissue.

Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging or DITI is a 15 minute non-invasive test which essentially enables a doctor to “read” the study and determine what, if anything, the physiological changes are showing in your picture. Thermography or thermograms can differentiate between fibrocystic disease, infection, vascular changes and cancer. Unlike a mammogram there is no radiation involved, no compression of your breasts or contact with your body. A special bonus is that younger women who typically have denser breast tissue (which makes it more difficult for a mammogram to be effective) have no problem with thermograms. A baseline thermogram is recommended for all women at any age but especially for women over 35.

Active cancer cells double approximately every 90 days. If you have two cells that double every 3 months it takes eight to ten years for a lump to be detectable by mammogram. Thermography can detect the changing growth patterns in the second year! Why wait? We deserve earlier detection and this is it. Schedule your thermogram today and tell your loved ones too. Then perhaps we can all stop worrying.
