JENNIE JOSEPH LM, CPM
Jennie Joseph is a Florida Licensed Midwife in private practice in Winter Garden (Orlando). She was born, raised and educated in England when her parents emigrated from Barbados, West Indies.. She started her midwifery career in London in 1979 and has since been active in the childbearing arena.
After moving to Florida in 1989, Jennie pursued a Midwifery license through the State and was the first foreign-trained midwife to be licensed under the newly re-opened Chapter 467FS (Midwifery Practice Act) in 1994.
Jennie was instrumental in setting up and running the School of Complementary Medicine’s Midwifery Program in 1995 and is the current Education Chair for the State Council of Licensed Midwifery. As Outreach Coordinator for the Orange County Healthy Start Coalition (Florida), Jennie developed the “Save Our Babies” initiaitive; a program geared towards addressing the poor perinatal outcomes for African American pregnant women and babies. Other responsibilities include Chair of Florida’s Council of Licensed Midwifery, Expert Witness for the Florida Department of Health, Executive Director of Commonsense Childbirth Inc. (a 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation) and Clinical Director of The Birth Place, Birthing Center in Winter Garden.
Jennie has launched the NUBIAN HEALTH NETWORK in order to address and redress the disparities in health care being experienced by women of African descent.
