Cancer: Jennie's Comment

How is it that in any and every category of cancer, if you are of African descent, you are more likely to succumb to the disease than your white counterpart; even in cases where the incidence of the disease is less for Black people? Cancer is a category of illness that can be powerfully impacted by early diagnosis, intervention and better yet prevention. I am absolutely convinced that our diet is our best weapon aginst cancer (and all illness, for that matter) and that no matter whether we are insured, uninsured or underinsured we are able to fight for our health on our own if we accept that our food is the key to our wellbeing. In the meantime, the fact that cancer is so prevalent in the Black community and the impact of racism on our poor health outcomes means that we must begin to arm ourselves with information and resources. It is imperative that we share with each other what we know, how we know it and where we found the information. Equally as important is to recognize what we don't know and discover ways in which we can find out.
